Foods to avoid at airports

At no extra cost to you I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

High-sugar yogurts should be avoided whenever possible by travelers. Small yogurts that are often found at airports may seem like a good idea, but they can hide a lot of sugar. They might also have artificial sweeteners or additives that you want to avoid.

Sushi should also be avoided at airports. You don’t want to have anything undercooked or raw, as it may cause food borne illnesses. If you really enjoy soy sauce it can also have tons of sodium in it too.

Deli meats, like you often find in sandwiches, can be pretty harmful to travelers. Deli meat also sits out longer than other options, which can increase your risk of food borne illnesses. Try to stick to foods that have been heated to high temperatures.

Avoid having a salad at an airport. It may seem like a healthy option, but the germs on it are very gross. Germs don’t wash completely off leafy greens.

Salty foods should be avoided. You want to avoid swelling and salty foods can make it worse for people. They may seem like a tasty snack option, but should definitely be avoided by people.

A huge coffee should also be avoided. The coffee can send you to the bathroom with a stomach ache, which can get worse with a plane’s elevation. If you’re sensitive to caffeine, you may also get the jitters from it. This can be a real pain for travelers.

In keeping with the drinks, also try to avoid alcohol. Due to the increased altitude of flights there is a decrease in available oxygen for passengers. You may experience lightheadedness, which is common at such a high altitude. Consuming alcohol can bring on this effect quicker.
